Tip of the Month for December 2009

Training

It is important to realize that the core is the basis for all movements. In training for an endurance event you must balance out all endurance work with exact core training. It is not enough to do a few exercises that involve the core, but actually devote training hours to develop core strength. This means that for at least a few strength workouts per week you are devoting training time to strengthen and increase functional activity of the core muscles which include all the abdominal muscles, lower back muscles and the muscles surrounding the hip joint. For more information and programs for a healthier and more functional core become a member!

 Nutrition

We are consumed by food each and every day. It is important to stop and actually realize that food is fuel for the body. It is not something we go and get our emotional needs met on a daily basis with. Take time to ask yourself this important question: "Am I eating this food because I am truly hungry and want to fuel my body, or am I eating this to satisfy some emotional unmet need, such as depression, sadness or anger. If you do this every time you eat you will soon realize that the majority of the time you are eating emotionally. For more information about nutrition become a Member!

Tips for StairClimbing Competitions and Training

Understand that racing vertically is much different then racing horizontially. Road running and climbing stairs is like comparing oil and water. You might be a good runner, but that won't necessarily transfer over to stairclimbing. You must train differently then you would if you were competing in a road race.
